Simple Random Number Generator is a simple html5 based app to generate random numbers. These types of apps are generally used for passwords, inspiring creativity, getting ideas for lottery numbers, making guessing type games etc. Check it out and provide feedback at the following link on this site: http://dwightreid.com/apps/RandomNumberGen
A web app is platform agnostic, meaning it runs on anything with a modern browser. This includes all smartphones, windows, linux and macs. What this means for the user is that no download is necessary, just follow the link and use the app.
Web apps are considered the future because of their platform independence. They allow developers to write the app once and have it delivered on all platforms. Simple Random Number Generator is such an app.
The app is under further development to eventually make it into what Google calls and Progressive Web App (PWA). This would allow it to behave more like a native app on mobile devices but still wouldn’t require installation, just what amounts t a bookmark.
What are Random Number Generators?
A good definition can be found on Wikipedia which states: “A random number generator (RNG) is a device that generates a sequence of numbers or symbols that cannot be reasonably predicted better than by a random chance”.
They generally fall into two categories:
1. True random number generators. These are generally hardware based and use some natural phenomenon, such as electronic noise, to generate the numbers.
2. Pseudo-random number generators. These are generally software based and use clever algorithms to generate the random numbers. Since the numbers are generated from computer calculations they cannot be truly random. Their randomness however is more than adequate for all but the most demanding applications, such as military cryptography.
Being software based, this app is a pseudo-random number generator.
